CSILLA RADNAY HAS BECOME THE BEST FEMALE MAIN CHARACTER!
Csilla Radnay won the award of best woman character on the theatrical festival of Szemle Plusz of 2026, in the collaboration of the METTRIN Arts Centre and the Maladype Theatre, for her moving performance in the jazz opera, titled The Suit, which was formed based on Can Themba’s work. The professional jury of the Open-Air Stage of Városmajor awarded the actress’ stiflingly burning and musically brilliant performance in the role of Matilde with this prestigious award, which has gained uniformly both the viewers and the critics’ appreciation.
The professional feedbacks that have been born since the premiere have highlighted Csilla’s dramatic power and nuances. According to Katalin Gabnai, the critic of the Critical Journals, in the performance we can find “many beauties, incredible power and huge sadness”, led by “the genius Csilla Radnay, who has unwavering presence.” The report of the Színház.online has also stressed the intensity of the performance, pointing at the fact, that the female character that is performed by the actress is the engine of the slowly emerging, stifling drama, who by reaching the deepest state of her humiliation by the end of the play, can become cathartic on the stage.
This effective and shocking presence can be fulfilled in the musicality of the multidisciplinary production too: according to the analysis of Papageno, the actress gives an impressive performance not only artistically but from the point of view of singing technique. She can express at the same time with her voice and body the psychological burden of oppression and the tragedy of losing her female dignity.
The performance, which has been directed by Zoltán Balázs and put on stage with Adrián Kovács’ music, has become one of the most special and important performances of the competitive members of Szemle Plusz, which has gained another professional confirmation, with Csilla Radnay’s deserved appreciation. Warmest congratulations to Csilla and to all the performers of the play!
The Suit can be seen next time on 14th November in METTRIN Arts Centre.
