Istvány Nánay: It’s Not a Fairy Tale…

“Not lacking humorous or grotesque moments, the book and the performance based on it both stand a shocking and disturbing invocation of the past; the private and the common history of Eastern Europe are made more complete by the history experienced or otherwise known by the spectators. The actor assesses his audience and selects individuals to address with particular sentences; he activates the audience who seem to be happy to respond and repeat sections collectively. He does not simply put himself into the situation but rather he invigorates it. Meanwhile, he allows the audience to set their imagination free and explore the possible associations; he lets them recall memories and add their own experiences to the text performed. Many more should get immersed in this cleansing process of the soul and the thoughts.”
